When you book a professional carpet clean on the Gold Coast, you'll generally encounter two methods: hot water extraction (commonly called steam cleaning) and dry cleaning. Both have their place — but they're not equally suited to every situation.
Here's an honest breakdown from our team at CCL, who use both methods depending on what each job requires.
Despite the name, steam cleaning doesn't actually use steam. It uses hot water (typically 80–120°C) mixed with a cleaning solution, which is injected deep into the carpet fibres under high pressure. A powerful vacuum then extracts the water along with the dissolved dirt, allergens, and bacteria.
Dry cleaning uses a minimal amount of moisture combined with a chemical compound or dry foam that is worked into the carpet fibres and then vacuumed out. The carpet is ready to walk on almost immediately.
For most Gold Coast homes, steam cleaning is the better choice. The humid climate means carpets accumulate more moisture-loving bacteria and allergens, and steam cleaning is the only method that reliably eliminates these at depth.
Dry cleaning makes sense if you need your carpets usable within an hour, or if you have delicate natural fibre carpets that can't handle moisture.
